And then I went to the airport to pick up the kids and due to weather, the plane did a flyby, dipped down below the clouds, didn't have enough clearance, and returned to Anchorage. I was so bummed! We thought they would land because the airport truck drove down the runway to scare off the birds.
Of course, I didn't hear from the kids until they got back to Anchorage. They had been flying all day so they were tired and bummed and had to book another flight, and then find a motel. Well, we can't say they didn't have a real Kodiak experience! I don't know how many times that happened to us when we lived here, but I can remember nights spent in the airport waiting for the announcement that they were going to try it again.
Hopefully the kids will have a good night's sleep and they will make it in tomorrow. Right now it is blustery and stormy and the house is rattling. After the weather I have had on this trip, it didn't even occur to me that the plane wouldn't arrive. Even though it was raining all day, it didn't occur to me until a little while before I went to pick them up!! Grrrrrrrrr.......
